Kannunvalajat ry is the student organization of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki. Kannunvalajat ry, commonly known as Kannu, was founded in May 1945, just nine days after the establishment of the faculty.

The primary tasks of Kannunvalajat include bringing together social sciences students from various study programs and majors, advocating for students' interests both within and outside the faculty, and organizing the year's largest events for all students in the faculty. As the faculty organization for around 3,000 students, Kannunvalajat also serves as a link between the faculty's 22 different student and subject organizations and promotes cooperation among them.

The Board

The day-to-day operations of Kannunvalajat ry are decided and managed by the association’s board, which is elected annually. During the year, board members also serve on various faculty committees, participate in the activities of HYY's (The Student Union of the University of Helsinki) committees, and maintain relationships with different partners.

In addition to the membership, the board’s activities are overseen by the association’s inspector, who is appointed from the faculty staff. Currently, the inspector of Kannunvalajat is Jari Eloranta. Supporting the board and ensuring continuity is the curator, who is elected every two years from among senior students or recent graduates. For the years 2024-2026, the curator of Kannunvalajat is Tommi Ostrovskij.

The framework for Kannunvalajat's activities is defined not only by its rules but also by a strategy renewed every few years and an annual action plan.

Helsingin yliopiston valtiotieteellisen tiedekunnan opiskelijajärjestö Kannunvalajat ry on perustettu vuonna 1945 valvomaan opiskelijoidensa etua niin tiedekunnan sisällä kuin laajemmin yhteiskunnassa. Nykyään noin 3000 jäsenen opiskelijajärjestö on valtiotieteellisen tiedekunnan vanhin ja suurin järjestö.
